How many days do you need for gorilla trekking?

Gorilla trekking in Uganda takes at least 2-3 days as the journey from Entebbe International Airport to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park takes around 9 hours. Trekking for gorillas in the mountainous rainforest often means hours of hiking on steep, narrow footpaths and walking through the dense jungle behind a scout snaking a path through the foliage with a machete. Regardless of how fit you think you are, it’s not a good idea to underestimate the importance of being mentally prepared before gorilla trekking. Gorilla habituation in Bwindi allows visitors more time with the gorillas that are still in the process of getting used to.

Whether you’re going gorilla trekking in Uganda, Rwanda, or DR Congo, there are a few essentials that you need to bring. It is a conservation success story and ongoing gorilla trekking tourism is critical to the continued existence of the species. Although gorilla trekking is considered one of the most fascinating wildlife experiences, it’s not like a normal game drive or a visit to the local zoo. For some, the experience of hiking through unknown territory and tropical forests is the experience of making gorilla trekking very exciting.

Everyone is welcome to go gorilla trekking as long as they have a permit, are at least 15 years old and are not ill. Items that I found essential for gorilla trekking in Uganda were gaiters, a fan and snacks for road transfers. Each gorilla permit only allows you to see gorillas for an hour. So if you want to do multiple visits, you’ll need multiple approvals. Gorilla trekking is a unique experience that will exceed all your expectations. So don’t let the high price stop you from going on this adventure.

Gorilla Trekking in Uganda is ideal for travelers who are flexible in terms of time, want to do additional safaris and are looking for a good balance between price and safety.
